Taking Vitamins for Hair Loss Might Help

vitamins for hair loss productIf you ask your hairdresser about vitamins for hair loss, he or she will probably suggest a good daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement.  If you're like most people, you are already taking one of those.  So, this article looks at the "extra" nutrients that you might need.

Practically any nutritional deficiency will cause alopecia, the medical term for balding.  But, before you start to "see" that symptom, you will usually "feel" fatigued.

Herbs are sometimes recommended for alopecia and because they also fight fatigue, they can mask an underlying nutritional deficiency.  The herbs to watch out for include ginseng, ginkgo biloba and green tea.

Those herbs may stimulate circulation and poor circulation may be a factor in alopecia.  But, there are more effective solutions on the market for stimulating circulation to the hair-producing follicles.
Assuming that you are not suffering from an out-and-out nutritional deficiency, the extra nutrients that you may need include vitamin B5, biotin and magnesium.  If you are a woman, you may also need PABA and silica.  If you are a man, zinc may be beneficial.

There are also some herbs that have been proven effective for male pattern baldness and alopecia in men.  So, in addition to taking vitamins for hair loss, a man might want to take saw palmetto, stinging nettle or pumpkin seed.

Trying to find out whether or not any of these treatments work could be a long process of trial and error.  Luckily, some companies have made it easier for us, by including all of the nutrients and herbs mentioned above.  Instead of trying one single ingredient at a time, you can try them all.

Not only is trying a single ingredient expensive, it's time consuming.  Most manufacturers recommend that you try the product for a minimum of three months, because that's how long it takes the follicles to cycle through the resting, transitional and active phases.

So, it would take at least nine months to try the three vitamins for hair loss suggested above.  Then, for a man to try the different herbs that are recommended would take another nine months.
While it is important to be patient when you are trying to reverse alopecia and balding, you should start to see results within the first three months.  You may need a magnifying glass to see the new hairs, since they grow at a rate of only a half inch per month.  But, if the treatment is effective, they should be there.

You should know that taking vitamins for hair loss is only one part of a complete treatment plan.  Some of the most effective products on the market are applied directly to the scalp.  Take the time to learn more about them, before it's too late.
